Holiday abroad - worth it?
Anyone ventured/venturing abroad? I'd love to get away and am not worried about the virus but more about the hassle involved. Also don't particularly want to go somewhere with similar restrictions to UK. I'd go to Sweden but the 14 day quarantine is still in place for that particular destination.

I'd probably avoid Sweden then

I'm in Marbella at the moment and it's pretty quiet, which personally I don't mind as I'm here to have a rest.

As for the flight, it was no different than usual. I was expecting temperature checks but there were none.

It's law to wear masks everywhere, which isn't nice in the heat. You can take them off when in a bar or cafe, however.

Alfs, do you have to wear them on the beaches?

Did Vickypk get to Ibiza and will he be in quarantine on his return.

Re: Holiday abroad - worth it?
Newton, officially yes, but many don't.

There have been hardly any cases of COVID on the Costa Del Sol and unless I show some symptoms I'm not quarantining for 14 days when I get back on Saturday. Fucking ridiculous decision.

Re: Holiday abroad - worth it?
I imagine many were looking forward to a break after the last few months
But are probably having second thoughts when they realise the government is likely to tell them with 5 mins notice that they are required to quarantine when returning from countries with no worse infection record than the UK.
Happy to let everything settle down and do more trips next year when more things are open and functioning.

Re: Holiday abroad - worth it?
As Alfs said the vast majority of people returning will think quarantining is a load of nonsense and won’t bother.
And no one will enforce it

Has anyone been charged with breaking quarantine yet?

Hoping to go to Aruba next week (from NY) - they need a negative COVID test taken within 72 Hrs (which will get) and usual precautions (Mask indoors etc)
No need to quarantine on return.

Re: Holiday abroad - worth it?
A significant factor to thoroughly check is whether your travel insurance has new post-Covid exclusions around repatriation should you become ill abroad.

Your illness might not be Covid-related but it would not be too much of a stretch to imagine that insurance companies will be ready to refuse an expensive reptriation if they can. My wife did repatriations as a nurse for a while, and even the amount she was paid years ago was unbelievable.

They could be wrong about the nature of your illness, but you could be in for a battle you really don't want a long way from home when you are not at your best.

Hospital standards around the world can vary wildly, so in-patient experiences are often worth avoiding if possible.

My daughter works in Singapore and if an expat is found breaking the quarantine rules, you can end up in jail. One of her friends husband decided to leave the quarantine hotel was found out and ended up having a short spell in prison. They will probably take your work visa off you as well.

Singapore isn’t exactly a democracy is it.

I live in SW France and our local hospital hasn't had a single Covid patient.

I wouldn't know what CV19 was except I occasionally listen to BBC by accident looking for real news stations...

In south of France right now. Drove over, private villa, pool etc, so quite safe.

Wouldn't fancy doing planes and hotels.

Nice work from the government introducing this quarantine with no notice for Spain. Keeps people anxious and unable to plan anything. And again, for no good reason.
